About Us - Our Executive

Steve Rickard - President

  • Chairs all meetings.
  • Organizes the first general meeting in September as an information night that shall include the introduction of the executive, and a display of photographs entered by members in various competitions, workshops and monthly assignments, etc.
  • Oversees Executive Committee.
  • Confirms our meeting place each year.
  • One of three executive members holding bank signing authority.
  • Contact person for the Club.
  • One of two executive members holding keys to the Post Office box.

Vice President

  • Chairs meetings in the absence of the President.
  • One of three executive members with bank signing authority.
  • Organizes and conducts “Monthly Assignments”, maintains records of the competition marks for the annual award, and initiates a critiquing session after entries have been judged.
  • Prepares a slate of candidates for nomination for election to an Executive position at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Conducts a vote, by secret ballot, to select the recipient of the annual “Member of the Year” award.
  • Arranges for an audit of the Club’s financial records by a qualified volunteer.

Dawn Traverse - Secretary

  • Attends all meetings and records accurate minutes of the proceedings.
  • Retains a copy of the minutes and distributes a copy to the Historian and each member of the Executive.
  • Attends to outgoing correspondence on behalf of the Club.

Treasurer

  • Keeps a record of the bank account.
  • Presents a financial report at monthly business meetings.
  • Pays bills by cheque.
  • Issues receipts for bills, memberships, etc. and collects copies of all bills paid.
  • Collects dues and maintains a current membership list.
  • Completes and submits annual return to Province of Alberta, Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs.
  • One of two executive members holding a key to the post office box.
  • One of three executive members with bank signing authority.
  • Forwards dues to PRPA and CAPA.
  • Prepares and presents a financial statement for the Annual General Meeting.

Curtiss Lund - PRPA/CAPA Representative

  • Reports PRPA/CAPA news and services at general meetings.
  • Responsible for all PRPA/CAPA competitions including the distribution and collection of entry forms and contacting members when necessary, mailing, receiving and returning club entries.
  • Compiles results of PRPA/CAPA competitions.
  • Distributes to members handbooks and other information from PRPA/CAPA.
  • Submits club information to PRPA for inclusion in “Prairie Focus”.
  • Attends biannual PRPA meetings in Oyen at club expense.

Jan Boyarzin - Editor

  • Edits and produces the club newsletter every two months (suggested format: 1/3 club news, 1/3 articles, 1/3 advertising).
  • Collects material from executive members, chairpersons and general membership of individual member activities and future club events.
  • Distributes newsletters to members, subscribers and advertisers.
  • For use as prizes, collects merchandise from advertisers in lieu of charging advertising fees.

Gail Schlosser - Director of Promotions

  • Provides club information to newspapers, radio and TV broadcasters.
  • Advertises special events and guest speakers.

Dean Watkiss - Equipment Manager

  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of the Club’s equipment.
  • Keeps records of equipment rentals, collects rental fees and submits money to the Treasurer.
  • Compiles and maintains an accurate list of equipment.
  • Ensures that required equipment is out for meetings and is put away at the end of the meeting.

Harvey Brink - Historian

  • Compiles and maintains an accurate history of the Club, the history to include past
    Financial Reports
  • Newsletters
  • Photo Album/Scrapbook
  • Minutes
  • PRPA/CAPA Information
  • Special Events Reports
  • Committee Reports and All Other Materials of Significance.
  • Copies of documents and materials may be made available to interested parties, but no original archival material is to leave the custody of the Historian. These materials are extremely important for documentation purposes for grant applications and to demonstrate current and past community work to any member or individual interested in the Club’s past achievements.

Competition Director

  • Organizes the Club’s two main competitions –
    • WINTER - Black & White/Monochrome Prints, Color Prints, Slides, Digitally Enhanced and “Doug Corrigan Nature Award”.
    • SPRING - Black & White/Monochrome Prints, Color Prints, Slides, Digitally Enhanced and “Annual Spring Work/Out”.
  • Recruits three judges and locates an appropriate location for the judging of the entries in competition.
  • Maintains records for “Aggregate Award,” “Doug Corrigan Nature,” “Annual Spring Work/Out” and “Monthly Assignment” awards based on points for the competitions.
  • Arranges for delivery of plaques and certificates to winners of the various competitions.
  • Prior to judging, may disqualify entries not conforming with the rules.
