Member Spotlight

This is a new feature this year for the CAPS photo club so members get to know each other better, and also to make them aware of what the photo club has to offer.

Please meet Erica Otterstatter,  Erica writes:

Hello I am Erica Otterstatter and I have been a member of the photography club for a year now and have expanded my knowledge a great deal from people who also enjoy photography.

I have always had an artistic eye and when I picked up my first camera at about age 12 it was love at first sight. My first camera was a point and shoot but I soon found an MEsuper that gave me more versatility. I took a basic photography course and that is when I really developed a passion for it with endless possibilities at my finger tips. I now shoot with a Pentax K50.

I grew up on the family farm and even though I have lived in Red Deer for some time I still find so much solitude and appreciation for nature. Photography and the peaceful countryside are my way to de-stress from daily life to think outside the box and focus on the beauty in nature.

Some advise I would give to others is find what speaks to your heart and photograph tha.  Be creative, imaginative, always have a camera with you because it will be the time you don't that you will see a great picture, and finally you don't have to go far to get a great picture it could be in your back yard or the park. My favorite spot in town is by the river or the wildlife sanctuary behind Kerry Wood nature center.

Other hobbies that I enjoy even though I find overlap with photography are in gardening and landscaping, travelling to places in our beautiful country, and water colour painting.

Have a look at some of the images Erica provided for her Member Spotlight feature.
